FirstCare West offers treatment for minor
illnesses and injuries

If you, your family or employees need medical care for sudden illness or injury, visit FirstCare West. We provide walk-in medical care to treat minor illnesses and injuries that don't require a trip to the emergency room. No appointment is needed.

FirstCare is appropriate for children and adults who have cuts, scrapes, sprains, fevers, rashes, colds and the flu. Your FirstCare visit will probably be 30 to 50 percent less expensive than the cost of an emergency room trip, and the waiting time usually is shorter. FirstCare accepts private insurance, Medicare, workers' compensation and major credit cards.

Our services include:

• Immunizations
• Physicals, including camp and sports physicals for children
• Preemployment physical exams
• Laboratory services
• Drug screening
• X-rays and electrocardiograms
• Minor surgery and referrals to specialists

At FirstCare, a physician, who is either a primary care or internal medicine specialist, is on duty at all times. The staff also includes physician assistants, registered nurses and X-ray and lab personnel. Follow-up care for patients and their employers is available, and patients can be admitted to Manatee Memorial for additional treatment if required.

"We serve as adjuncts to patients' regular physicians," says Gennia Jennings, Practice Manager at FirstCare. "We coordinate care by faxing over medical records to physicians' offices, or we can give patients their records when they leave."
