| ![]() Auxiliary's Banner Year Benefits Many The Manatee Memorial Hospital Auxiliary had a banner year in 2003. Under the leadership of Ray Truitt, President, the group of 350 Auxilians and 50 Manateens contributed 81,000 hours of volunteer service. From delivering daily newspapers, making heart pillows and hand-knitting baby accessories, this dedicated and caring organization really demonstrated the art of giving back. Significant funding is generated through the Thrift Shop along with special sales conducted throughout the year by these dynamic individuals. They also provide the Pet Therapy, Vial of Life and Shuttle Transportation Programs. Highlighting this year was the endowment of $250,000 to the University of South Florida for advanced nursing scholarships. An initial gift of $100,000 has been made with the balance to be paid over the next four years. This partnership will enable nurses to seek further education and training in a curriculum monitored by the university and Manatee Memorial Hospital. In addition, 15 students have begun their nursing careers at Manatee Community College with scholarships funded by the Manatee Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. The community was the beneficiary as well, as more than $100,000 was given to local charities to continue their programs. The United Way, Boys and Girls Clubs, Just for Girls, Meals on Wheels and Manatee County Nursery School were just a few of the worthwhile organizations that received special gifts. The spirit of giving and making a difference has always been the focus of the Auxiliary, and their efforts are to be commended. Congratulations to the New Officers and Directors
