The Manatee Memorial Auxiliary, a nonprofit organization in partnership with the Manatee Memorial Hospital Foundation, coordinates hospital volunteer activities and raises thousands of dollars for hospital improvements, medical scholarships, local social service agencies and community service projects through a variety of fund-raising efforts. The auxiliary also represents the hospital at special events.

Many Accomplishments Support Hospital
The auxiliary had an outstanding year of service in 2007. Here are just a few of their accomplishments:

  • Raised more than $338,000 through the Auxiliary Thrift Shop.
  • Raised more than $43,000 through other fund-raising efforts, including uniform sales, vending machine sales and hospital gift shop revenues.
  • Funded renovations for the Auxiliary Thrift Shop and purchased a new shuttle for transporting patients around the hospital.
  • Adult, teen and on-the-job training volunteers contributed 64,751 hours during 2007.
  • Purchased new car seats for parents of premature infants.
  • Donated to the Manatee Memorial Employee Assistance Fund.
  • Funded more than $85,000 in nursing and healthcare scholarships to local educational institutions, including the University of South Florida, Keiser University and Manatee Community College.
  • Donated more than $39,000 to 17 community organizations, including Meals on Wheels and The United Way.

A Call for More Volunteers
The auxiliary also elected a new president, Nancy Stolle, who joined the auxiliary six years ago. "My husband had open-heart surgery at Manatee Memorial seven years ago," she says. "He received great treatment and after he recovered, we both joined the auxiliary as our way of saying thank you."

Volunteers can choose an area of service and times best suited to their talents and schedules. "There are so many things you can do as a volunteer, and everything is appreciated," says Stolle. "Plus, you get to work with a wonderful group of people."
