Catherine Cooper, DO, practices at Manatee Memorial Hospital and is often the first person her patients call when they need medical attention or advice. As a family physician at Cooper Family Medical in Bradenton, she treats everything from kids' scrapes and sniffles to their parents' and grandparents' chronic conditions, like diabetes and high blood pressure.

"I love caring for entire families," Dr. Cooper says. "It really helps me build trust with patients when I know and understand not only their own health history, but also something about their family life and how that affects their mental and physical well-being."

Varied Daily Patient Care
There's no "typical day" in Dr. Cooper's office. She may start the day with a well-child checkup, followed by a minor skin procedure and then a diabetes consultation. "In any appointment, I focus completely on my patient, really listen to what he or she is saying and provide personalized, comprehensive care," she says.

Most issues are managed at the office, but if patients need specialized care, Dr. Cooper refers them to specialists and other healthcare providers, such as home health nurses. She also follows up with any of her regular patients who are in Manatee Memorial Hospital and performs medical consultations at the hospital for patients who do not have a primary care physician. She was recently appointed to the Manatee Memorial Hospital Board of Governors.

Extensive Training and Experience
Dr. Cooper earned her medical degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale and completed her residency at Sun Coast Hospital in Largo, which has the largest osteopathic teaching program in the southeastern U.S. After completing her residency, she served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy for eight years before settling in Bradenton to open her medical practice in 2004.

Cooper Family Practice includes Dr. Cooper, as well as her husband, Christopher Cooper, DO; Andrew Clark, DO, who specializes in sports medicine; and Lura Springfels, ARNP, a nurse practitioner. "We also have a wonderful nursing staff and office staff who keep our practice running smoothly and provide efficient, kind and respectful service for our patients," Dr. Cooper says.

Cooper Family Practice is accepting new patients. For an appointment, please call Direct DoctorsSM Plus at 1-800-816-4145.
